This isn't your most recent episode of Unsolved Mysteries. In fact, these are five authentic skulls dug up and discovered from nearly every corner of the globe. If the skulls are actually of human origin has been put up for debate by some. The Horned Skull During an archaeological dig in Sayre, Bradford County, Pennsylvania in the 1880s, a number of human skulls were unearthed. These skeletons were anatomically correct, except for the anomaly of their projections, two inches above the eyebrow, and the fact that their average height in life would have been around seven feet tall. The bones were sent to the American Investigating Museum in Philadelphia, where they were stolen - never to be seen again. The "horned giants" of Sayre is an urban legend concerning a series of skeletons that included a horned skull reportedly discovered during the 1880s by the then-state historian, Dr. G.P. Donehoo, and two visiting professors, A.B. Skinner and W.K. Moorehead while excavating a burial mound. The skeletons were reported to be at or above 7 feet (2.1 m) in height, possessing skulls that had horn-like protuberances just above the eyebrows, but were claimed to have been lost, misplaced, or stolen while in route to the American Investigation Museum. Neither Donehoo, Skinner, nor Moorehead described the discovery of any human skeletons at Sayre exhibiting gigantism or horned protrusions in their official excavation reports Starchild Skull This peculiar skull was found in a mine tunnel, 100 miles Southwest of Chihuahua. Dental analysis have ascertained that the skull is that of a five year old child. However, the interior of the skull is 20cm larger than the average adult cranial cavity. The optic nerve is situated at the bottom of the eye socket, rather than the back. The back of the skull is flattened, but not by artificial means. Carbon dating places the skull's age at approximately 1100 BCE. DNA testing has determined that the child had a human mother, but useful lengths of nuclear DNA for further testing could not be recovered. In 2004, Royal Holloway College of the University of London revealed “fibers” in the bone of the skull and a reddish residue, neither of which are known or recorded to exist prior to the discovery. The Starchild skull is an abnormal human skull allegedly found in Mexico that was claimed to be the product of extraterrestrial-human breeding or genetic manipulation. Mitochondrial DNA recovered from the skull has established it as human. Neurologist Steven Novella believes it to be the skull of a child who died as a result of congenital hydrocephalus. The analysis didn't show that the Starchild skull was a space alien since the study of DNA is done by comparing new samples with old samples of genetic material. We don't have any alien DNA of file. Instead, the results revealed that the Starchild had a distinctly human mother but a non-human father. In short, it was what scientists call a hybrid. Paracas Skulls These strangely-shaped skulls have been causing quite a stir since their discovery in 1928. The 300+ skulls have been dated at over 3,000 years old and some researchers believe this discovery warrants a change in the accepted anthropological paradigms. While many cultures practiced head binding in order to achieve an elongated head, these particular skulls seem to have a different story. While head binding modifies the shape of the head, it cannot increase the cranial volume in any significant way. So how can we explain the fact that the Paracas skulls are 25% larger and 60% heavier than regular human skulls? In an attempt to shed some light on this mystery, a series of DNA tests were arranged by the Director of the Paracas Museum of History. Samples of skin, hair, teeth and bone fragments were sent to a genetic laboratory for analysis and the results were amazing. As it turns out, the skulls belonged to a very distant relative of Homo sapiens. The mitochondrial DNA presented mutations that were never found in any other human beings.
