UFO researchers believe planet earth was once visited by aliens because of an "800-year-old mobile phone that has been dug up in Austria."

While the claim is a far fetched one based on an artefact that is most likely a hoax, the internet has still gone into overdrive with a number of theories about this image.

YouTuber, Paranormal Crucible, claims the picture shows an "artefact which resembles a modern day cellphone [that] was reportedly found earlier this year by archaeologists digging in a city in the Austrian state of Salzburg."

Conspiracy theorists believe the device has a collection of ancient symbols known as Cuneiform, belonging to the Sumerian civilisation of Mesopotamia (modern day Iraq).

One of the more obvious points about this "discovery" is the lack of information about it online. This has lead to some reports, including those from conspiracy website tothedeathmedia.com, to label it as an "elaborate hoax."

They stated: "Searching the internet did help much as the information about the artefact is extremely limited.

"The only thing we managed to find out is that it was allegedly discovered in...modern-day Austria." However, this has not stopped alien hunters from making wild claims about the artefact's origins.

According to Paranormal Crucible, "artefacts like this were copied from extraterrestrial technology."
